CRANBROOK - With a brand new program for young athletes, the Rocky Mountain Rams are proud to offer football for all age groups in Cranbrook this fall.
The newly launched 'Fun With Flags' program for children ages 4+ in Pre-K to Gr. 3 is designed to teach young children fundamental movement patterns for running, throwing and catching, along with developing other motor and coordination skills. While using footballs and flags for some teamwork exercises and games, the goal is to promote physical activity and development in a fun, non-competitive environment.
With the addition of the new program, local athletes are able to register in Fun With Flags (Pre-K to Grade 3), the Kootenay Football League - NFL Flag (Grades 4-8 in Cranbrook), and the Senior Rams tackle team (Grades 9-12). Registration for all three program streams is open until early September.
Football returned to Cranbrook in 2018 when the Senior Rams returned to the field after a near 10-year hiatus. This year's senior squad will head to Eureka, Montana for a third straight season to take on the Lincoln County High School Lions JV squad and will make a pair of trips to Bonners Ferry, Idaho to take on the Bonners Ferry Badgers JV team. Further games in Cranbrook may be scheduled for October.
The Rocky Mountain Rams Football Association continues to operate the Kootenay Football League which has seen teams from nine other communities compete in two age categories. The KFL features athletes from Gr. 4-9 in the fall (Gr. 4-8 in Cranbrook). For more on the KFL visit or NFL Flag page here. This year's version of the league kicks off with its annual season-opening camp on September 8. For the first time, the camp will have two locations with East Kootenay teams participating in Cranbrook and West Kootenay teams getting the season started in Creston. The KFL will host four regional gamedays beginning with a September 15 mini tournament at Cranbrook's Moir Park. Teams will compete in their respective East and West regions before returning to Cranbrook for the Kootenay Bowl on October 26-27.
