CRANBROOK - The Rocky Mountain Rams found one more opportunity to gather together, concluding its 2024 season by handing out some hardware at Rams Recognition Night on Wednesday.
Junior running back Carter Thistle took home Most Outstanding Player honours for the Rams after leading the team's offensive attack on the ground this season. Thistle battled through injury to find the endzone in Bonners Ferry and was a steadying presence in the offensive backfield.
Junior offensive lineman Landon Parker was recognized as the 2023 Offensive Player of the Year. The versatile offensive lineman played nearly every spot up front for the Rams throughout the season and made his mark as an impact blocker in the run game.
The team's Defensive Player of the Year went to Creston's Jordan Martineau. Another junior, Martineau provided a number of highlight plays in the Rams' two games, including a pair of sacks and a forced fumble.
Senior Moses Bowden was the recipient of the prestigious "We Not Me" Coaches Award for 2023. A veteran leader, Bowden provided guidance and stewardship for his younger teammates, played any position necessary, and always did so with a smile. Bowden showed up in the season recap video a number of times and consistently modelled the program's values at practices and games.
Rounding out the awards was Payton Bunney. The sophomore from Kimberley was named the 2023 Rookie of the Year. The former Kootenay Football League product who began his journey with the Rams through the NFL Flag program in Kimberley excelled in his first season of tackle football where he lined up at receiver.
In addition to the award winners, the Rams also honoured five seniors who will graduate this spring. Cranbrook's Moses Bowden, Daniel Petryshen, and Michael Petryshen, and Invermere's Dylan Gray and Creston's Sages Brunham.
The Rams will reconvene with sessions over the winter and spring before returning to the field for the 2024 season in August.
